Description |
Three small crystals of euhedral calcite from a now closed quarry on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The iconic volcano known as Diamond Head which presidents over the city of Honolulu, was so named after European explorers in the 1800's mistook the calcite crystals in the veins for diamonds. These well crystallized samples with adamantine luster demonstrate how an untrained eye could make that (incorrect) assumption. |
