Description |
A fine encrustation of gem celestine on matrix. The old collection label indicates this celestine is from Scofield, which suggests that this piece is from the Maybee Quarry, a limestone quarry, now owned by Stoneco. This storied locality, which has been mined since the 1850's, was noted for producing specimen quality examples of sulfur and celstine at least as far back as the year 1900. This is a fine sample with good ice blue color and well defined individual crystals of celestine on a light colored limestone matrix. |
