Description |
Although iron is the most abundant mineral found in the earths crust, and fairly attainable to find in extraterrestrial sources (iron nickel meteorites), terrestrial, native iron is extremely rare, and found at only three known localities on earth. It is far more common to find iron as a rock or sediment and very hard to find in its purest form. This miniature sample provides a rare glimpse of Earth's most formative element - telluric iron is decidedly metallic, and shows beautiful shiny blebs in this small, but difficult to attain mineral sample. |
