Description |
A unique mineral specimen showing several microscopic blebs of element 80, Mercury, also known as quicksilver- the only element that is liquid at room temperature. This specimen comes from a now closed mine that was historically important as one of the northern California mines that produced prolific quantities of ore of this important element that was used extensively in the extraction of gold during the California gold rush, as elemental mercury readily forms an amalgam with gold. |
