Description |
This variety of coral is termed stag coral for its unique, branching, antler-like appearance. Corals that were once abundant in the V.I. have become more rare, as they were once extensively harvested for various industrial and building uses. The health of the global coral ecosystem is threatened due to ocean temperature increases, acidification, and physical damage to these slow growing organisms from boat anchors and other human activities. |
