Colombo Mines, Sri Lanka |
Description |
A fine miniature sample of graphite, a form of native carbon, which we suspect is from the ancient Colombo mines of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). This sample is very lustrous and slick to the touch, indicative of its pure carbon content. The arrangement of atoms in carbon makes it extremely soft, in contrast with its' dimorph, diamond, which is among the hardest known minerals. |
